KURT ATTAWAY

LEAD PASTOR

For over 25 years, I have been living into God's call for my life. As a young kid, I discovered a deep connection with Jesus. For over 3 decades I have been discovering what it means to live my life loved by God. I am grateful for the family I come from. My parents showed me what it looks like to love Jesus and engage the mission of His kingdom here on earth. To this day, my two brothers are my best friends! I know the story God is writing in my life has been significantly shaped by my family and I am grateful to continue their legacy in my own family today.

On July 22, 2006, I married Lauren. A friendship which began when we were 4 years old has been growing stronger and stronger since we committed our lives to one another. Lauren is my best friend and I love the ways God is at work in our lives. We are learning along the journey and discovering the joy of choosing one another daily. We have four children; two boys (Canten & Jaden) and two girls (Emersen & Andersen). My marriage and my family are so important to me.

I earned a BA in Psychology from The University of Texas San Antonio. I attended UTSA on a full-athletic scholarship. My love for basketball opened doors to have a great career as a D-1 point guard. Playing in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament (aka March Madness) will always be a lifelong highlight, even if we lost to Stanford in the first round. Playing hoops at UTSA paved the way for me to participate in and lead Fellowship of Christian Athletes. God used those years to redirect my heart toward vocational ministry. I truly believe God called me into full-time ministry!

I joined the staff at The Vineyard Church Pearland in 2007. Lauren and I moved from San Antonio and have been fully engaged in loving this church family and city ever sense.

In 2012, I completed my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Houston Clear Lake. I spent 10 years being trained and practicing as a clinician. My time as a clinician shaped who I am today. I better understand what so many people experience daily and I know the tangible hope we are all looking for; a hope I find in Jesus and His kingdom! We all long for heaven and Jesus invites us to pray for heaven to come to earth.

In February 2020, I stepped into the Lead Pastor role after serving on staff as the Associate Pastor for almost 12 years. I love the city of Pearland and the growing community at The Vineyard. Beyond the local church, I have served in some national roles with Vineyard USA: currently I serve on the Multiply Vineyard Team and I have served as a Marriage Specialist and on the National Youth Task Force.

God is doing great things in the world. God is doing great things in our cities. God loves you and is pursuing you with the fullness of His kingdom.
